Monhegan Island Couples Session
Monhegan Island, Maine
In 1984, Mike & Maureen went against what their parents and anyone else thought and had a destination “elopement” before destination elopements were cool. Monhegan Island is where they first vacationed together and where they first said “I love you” so all in all, they thought it would be the perfect place to get married. And they did. Right in front of this lighthouse. The local postwoman married them, several locals hiked along so that they could see this & 30+ of their friends and family joined them. Mike likes to say they dragged their guests kicking and screaming to their favorite tiny island, and then no one wanted to leave. Maureen changed into sneakers so they could hike to their portrait location. The cute little Trailing Yew stayed open a little longer that year so they could hold their reception. It was truly the start of what it means to have an intimate and meaningful wedding and they wouldn’t change a thing 🤍
And now it’s a place they’ve made a tradition out of vacationing to with the family they’ve created. I just loved hearing their story.
I documented bits and pieces of the rest of their family’s vacation as well. This family of creatives (landscape photographers, stylist, chef, etc.) invited my friend and I to stay in their vacation home + taught us the ways of homemade pasta, great conversation, and showed us the ins and outs of this charming little island. HONORED and THANKFUL just don’t do my feelings justice.
